William Gibson
Quizá la mayoría de personas que usan el término "ciberespacio" no sepan que el creador de esa palabreja cada día más común fue un escritor canadiense, William Gibson, a quien también llaman el precursor de la literatura cyber-punk y cuya novela Neuromancer es un objeto de culto para todos los amantes de la ciencia ficción, amén de muchos geeks que conozco por ahí. En el periódico The Guardian le hacen una entrevista sobre su nueva novela, Spook Country, donde abandona los temas del ciberespacio.
Además, también en The Guardian el maléfico John Crace hace una reseña satírica de su novela dentro de su pérfido pero muy divertido espacio Digested read que concluye con la siguiente lápida más bien condescendiente: "The Return of the Cyberman"
Dice Gibson: "'It's been a gradual thing for me,' he says, in his soft, slightly straining voice, with its inflections of the American South, where he grew up. 'I don't think it was deliberate. For Neuromancer, I think it is virtually impossible to date the action of the text, though I assumed it was about 2030 when I was writing it. I did that for a simple reason: though I never imagined anyone would be reading it after a year, I wanted to give it its longest possible shelf life. When I wrote my fourth novel, Virtual Light, I set it in a very near future - probably about now - to punk things up a bit, not honour the sci-fi rules and write a book that would date terribly. But for my last two books [Spook Country and the bestselling Pattern Recognition], I have become convinced that it is silly to try to imagine futures these days.'

5:36 p. m.Gibson también escribía guiones para series de TV, hizo 2 capítulos para X-Files, uno de los cuales es en mi opinión el mejor de la serie: Kill Switch.
