House of Meetings
[NOVEDAD] ¿Quién dice que a la crítica del New York Times, Michiko Kakutani, no le gusta nada? La reseña que ha publicado sobre House of Meetings, la nueva novela de Martin Amis, es sumamente elogiosa y coincide con John Banville en decir que es la mejor que ha publicado su autor hasta el momento. Después de un primer párrafo que hacía temer lo peor (afirma que Amis escribió su nueva novela con el material sobrante de su anterior libro Koba, el temible) pero luego no duda en decir que su nueva novela, a diferencia de su autoindulgente autobiografía, es: "a bullet train of a novel that barrels deep into the heart of darkness that was the Soviet gulag and takes the reader along on an unnerving journey into one of history’s most harrowing chapters".
Luego, declara que a diferencia de su última novela Yellow dog (traducida en Anagrama como Perro Callejero), a la que considera una parodia de sus propias obras, House of Meetings es sin discusión su libro más poderoso, una novela subyugante que transforma de manera imaginativa aquel aprendizaje que consiguió al investigar el material para Koba, el temible. Aquí el párrafo más elogioso (al final de la reseña pondrá unos reparos mínimos, sin embargo, como para no perder la costumbre): "(...) a novel that subjugates his penchant for postmodern pyrotechnics to the demands of the story at hand, a novel that takes all the knowledge he accumulated in the course of researching “Koba” and transforms it, imaginatively, into the deeply moving story of two brothers who were interned at a slave labor camp in the arctic wastes of the Soviet Union. It is a story about fraternal love and resentment, but more important, it is a story about the emotional consequences of survival, about the connection between public and private betrayals and the human costs of a totalitarian state’s policies of internment".
